Korea welcomes Khalifa University, 11-18 June 2011

A student delegation from Khalifa University that was led by Prof. Chan Yeob Yeun, recently visited the Republic of South Korea, a global pioneer in the field of science and technology.
The eight day student trip to South Korea offered students the opportunity to meet with representatives from leading companies and organizations. Students got to experience first-hand impressive technological advances currently being developed in South Korea. In addition to the industry tours, the students were also introduced to South Korean culture as well as meeting with Emiratis who are currently studying and working in South Korea.
The visit also allowed students to visit the UAE Embassy in Seoul where the students received a presentation from the First Secretary of the UAE Embassy, about the importance of the South Korean-UAE relationship. As part of the visit the delegation also got the chance to explore the Hyundai Automobile Factory and the Hyundai Heavy Industries where they learned about South Korean cars and ships. A visit was also paid to the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to meet with students to learn about their research projects.
Dr. Mohammed Al-Mualla, Interim Provost of Khalifa University commenting on the recent trip, said: “Khalifa University is committed to offering students an environment which is conducive to learning and skills development. Each year, Khalifa University rewards its highest achieving students with overseas field trips. These field trips offer students an opportunity to experience another culture as well as to be exposed to new industries with a particular focus on processes in science and technology.”
"This trip to South Korea allowed our students to meet with industry leaders in globally recognized companies and institutions. Acquiring such insight, will allow our students to actively contribute to the development of the UAE as an Engineering hub." he added
One of the students who participated in the trip, Ali Kindi said, “This trip was very useful for us as we got to visit many scientific and technologically advanced foundations, industries and institutes. The place that I enjoyed visiting the most was Satrec where we met Emarati Engineers who are currently working on DubaiSat and on developing a new satellite with Korean engineers. Meeting Emarati Engineers in South Korea made me feel proud of my country for the technological advances we are making. This was my first trip to South Korea and I found the culture fascinating and the people extremely friendly.”
The trip also included an array of Korean cultural and entertaining activities. Visits were made to the National Folk Museum, Gyeonbok Palace and KTX.
